About
the event...2008!
Synergy Fest, now in its fifth year, brings people together to celebrate life on Earth together and to learn more about renewable energies and sustainability. This fun and informational weekend kicks off with "Prelude to Synergy," a free rock concert, Friday, April 25 from 3pm to 7pm. The main event follows on Saturday, April 26 from 11am to 6pm and offers something for everyone, with live music on two stages, great food, arts, activities, and presentations of renewable energies and sustainable living.
"Synergy" is the concept of multiple energies or influences working together to produce an outcome greater than their sum. True to its name, Synergy Fest, although sponsored by the Las Vegas chapter of NMSEA, is an amalgamation of many partners. Amigos de Rio Gallinas School, the group that supports the Rio Gallinas Charter School for Ecology and the Arts, is on board for its second year to run the Sunshine Kids Village. Last year this aspect of the festival was a huge hit, with a rock-climbing wall, many games and activities, a "recycle" rummage sale, a plant sale, and the Firefly Stage presenting lots of family-friendly entertainment.
Luna Community College, another major partner, presents its renewable energy education program at Synergy Fest. This innovative program trains professional installers. The Armand Hammer United World College of the American West, one of five United World Colleges on the planet and the only one in the United States, brings students from a variety of countries to Las Vegas. Many of these students are involved with Synergy Fest as volunteers, presenters, and entertainers. New Mexico Highlands University provides facilities and support for Synergy Fest, and the Las Vegas Arts Council supports the Fest's popular Arts & Crafts Village, where regional artisans display and offer their creations.
Live music on a solar-powered stage has always been one of the most popular aspects of Synergy Fest, and this year will be no different. An exciting assortment of musicians and entertainers is set to perform. From folk to metal, from salsa to psychedelic, there's something for everyone's musical taste.
