The
Heavenly Bodies Club is dedicated to bringing science to anyone
who's interested. "Genius or a Fool, Pull up a Stool."
We work on
spreading interest in fields of astronomy, sustainable energy, and
other topics relevant to current events. The club accomplishes this
by
holding star parties, forums, scientific talks, educational
fieldtrips, and public outreach events.
Our star parties regularly include Professor Vic Alladi giving a
tour
of the night sky. We begin by pointing out and discussing basic
constellations and important astrological bodies. Every star party
is
different and often many people leave having either seen for the
first
time the polar ice caps on Mars or our neighbor galaxy Andromeda
and
gain a realization and interest in our expanding horizons. Our forums
and scientific talks give the opportunity for continued and more
advanced discussions in all of these fields, while our fieldtrips
allow us to share our thoughts and take advantage of opportunities
not
close by. The primary goal though is to get the public involved,
so we
annually coordinate the South West Synergy Fest along with a Gallinas
River Clean Up Day as an outreach to the community.
